The Recovery Rosary: Reflections for Alcoholics and Addicts on Kindle and in print on CreateSpace

My new book: The Recovery Rosary: Reflections for Alcoholics and Addicts is now available through Amazon for their Kindle device and reader apps.

Amazon.com: The Recovery Rosary: Reflections for Alcoholics and Addicts at the Kindle Store.

If you would prefer a print edition, Amazon’s CreateSpace offers it here: The Recovery Rosary: Reflections for Alcoholics and Addicts on CreateSpace.

The book helps people to reflect on their recovery and relationships with others, and ultimately with Jesus Himself. Whether people are still struggling with their addictions, or have been clean and sober for a few weeks, months, or years, the reflections will lead them to meditate on the spiritual growth they have achieved so far.

It takes a time-honored prayer and brings it into a useful format for people to pause and reflect on their recovery, their relationships with others, and ultimately with Jesus Himself. Whether people are still struggling with their addictions, or have been clean and sober for a few weeks or months, or many years, the reflections for each Mystery of the Rosary will help them meditate on the spiritual growth they have achieved so far. Over the years, their thoughts on each meditation may change, depending on “where they’re at” in their recovery journey.

It is also available through Smashwords, for a variety of ebook formats. If you can’t wait for it to be available through Barnes & Noble for the Nook or Apple for you iPad and other iThingies, try Smashwords!

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

Today, February 11th, is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

(Via EWTN.)

It is a day deeply connected with healing, as the waters in the grotto at Lourdes, France, has been the site of many healings of an unexplained, and therefore probably miraculous, nature. The EWTN link above has more information.

I have in the past had run a Novena but didn’t do that this year. If you click on this: Our Lady of Lourdes Search Results in Sober Catholic you will find a list of the blogposts with the nine days of prayer. Although novenas are typically started before the Feast day, there is no reason why you cannot start it on the day of the Feast.

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 9

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Day Nine Intentions: The general intentions for the alcoholic you are praying for.

Whether a loved one or yourself. Get quiet, listen to that quiet, and try and hear what God is telling you.

Conclude daily: O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you, those who do not have recourse to you, enemies of the Holy Catholic Church, and all those recommended to you. Amen.

We ask all this in the Name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour. Amen

All About The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 8

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Day Eight Intentions: Pray for Mercy:

James 2:13: “For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.”

(Via USCCB.)

Pray that mercy be shown to you by those you have hurt in your addiction, and pray also that you may show others the same mercy when they hurt you.

Remember in the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples that we are to expect forgiveness from God only inasmuch as we forgive others. This is hard, at least try to embrace the concept.

Amen

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 7

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Day Seven Intentions: Pray for Faith, the conviction that there is a future without drinking and drugging, and that a life without the addiction is a far better one than a life drinking and using.

Luke 17:5: “And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.'”

(Via USCCB.)

Amen

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 6

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Day Six Intentions: Pray for humility, the ability to set aside yourself and your self-willed desires and allow God’s will to work in your life so that you can achieve what He made you for.

Amen

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 5

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Day Five Intentions: Pray for those that are alone and isolated, who are disconnected from others due to their addiction and who feel that their experience with alcoholism is worse than anyone else’s. Try and reach out to them, if possible. You may be a light in their darkness.

Amen

Novena to the Immaculate Conception for Alcoholics: Day 4

Pray daily: O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst permit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

Fourth Day Intentions: That we find it within ourselves to open up to those we have hurt in our addictions, and those that have hurt us, and love them. May the path to a possible reconciliation be opened by forgiveness.

Amen
